Maurice Dupra Goodman, Vice Mayor of Millbrae City, is a dedicated leader and advocate for educational equity, youth development, and community service. Currently, he served as the Executive Director of a San Francisco-based non-profit start-up focused on empowering teens and young adults from the Bayview, Fillmore, and other neighborhoods throughout San Francisco. Additionally, Goodman was a member of the Board of Trustees for the San Mateo County Community College District, where he served as President in 2019.
Goodman’s career began in the legal field, where he worked as a legal paraprofessional and earned degrees in Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice, and Early Childhood Education from Skyline College and California State University, East Bay. His shift to educational leadership saw him elected to two terms on the South San Francisco Unified School District Board of Trustees, twice serving as President.
His extensive volunteer experience includes roles with the Red Cross, South San Francisco Host Lions Club, North San Mateo County Boys & Girls Club, and the Executive Board of the San Mateo County NAACP where he is now President. Goodman also served as a Board member of Design Tech High School.
A trailblazer in San Mateo County, Goodman is the first and only countywide elected Black male in its history. His commitment to social justice and equality is evident in his approach to dismantling oppressive systems in education and beyond. He was recognized as one of the Bay Area’s Talented 25 and received the San Mateo NAACP Excellence in Education Award.
Born in San Francisco’s Fillmore District, Goodman was raised by his single mother, a member of the Black Panther Party. These early life experiences instilled in him a deep commitment to advocacy and community service. Now a father, husband, and mentor, Goodman continues to inspire and lead with passion and dedication.
